My Top 20 List of Swords from Film & TV

Updated on January 27, 2012

Introduction:

I love lists and compiling them (in many different ways) as some of my followers on Hub Pages may know, as can be seen by some of my other hubs.

This is a pictorial list of my top 20 swords from film and TV (Mostly science fiction and fantasy). I made it by collecting images off the internet that are relevant to the subject and making small collages. I then have added a little profile of each sword and their wielders.

( Note: The images of the characters, weapons, names and all information related to them in this list are the property of their respective owners.)

When I was a child Zorro was one of my favourite heroes and watching it on TV was one of the few pleasant highlights in a crappy life.

Terry Goodkind, Disney, ABC Studios

Wielded by: Richard Rahl

The sword has the power to cut through anything perceived as the enemy while not harming a friend. The Sword of Truth draws on the rage of the one wielding it, but can be turned white and, when used with love and forgiveness, can slay even a friend. However, only the true Seeker can turn the blade of the Sword of Truth white.

The true Seeker of Truth is Richard Rahl and is the one that turned the blade of the Sword of Truth white. Richard Rahl does not need the sword in hand to call upon the power for the swords power is just a mirror of his own. The Sword of Truth is a sword that is carried by the Seeker of Truth.

The famous words he has prepared to say to his father's killer before he exacts his revenge is "I am Inigo Montoya, you killed my father prepare to die". Even though he eventually loses his sword fight with the masked Wesley and they team up, he shows he is indeed a master swordsman worthy to wield the Rapier, when he indeed defeats the six fingered man. The Princess Bride is one of my favourite movies!

J.R.R Tolkien

Wielded by: Frodo Baggins

In the film "The Lord of the Rings” The Sting sword, made by Elves in the ancient days, was given to the “Hobbit” Frodo Baggins by his cousin Bilbo, the original Ring bearer. Bilbo carried Sting with him when he originally acquired the Ring from Gollum. Sting's blade glows when the Orcs, the violent foot-soldiers of Sauron, are present. Engraved on the blade and cross guard of the sword are runes in the Elven language of Sindarin that say: "Maegnas aen estar nin dagnir in yngyl im" which translates to; "Maegnas is my name, I am the spider's bane." It serves Frodo well on his journey to cast the Ring back into the fires of Mount Doom, where it was originally forged, and destroy it once and for all.
