My Top 20 List of Swords from Film & TV
Introduction:
I love lists and compiling them (in many different ways) as some of my followers on Hub Pages may know, as can be seen by some of my other hubs.
This is a pictorial list of my top 20 swords from film and TV (Mostly science fiction and fantasy). I made it by collecting images off the internet that are relevant to the subject and making small collages. I then have added a little profile of each sword and their wielders.
( Note: The images of the characters, weapons, names and all information related to them in this list are the property of their respective owners.)
1. Lightsaber
Wielded by:
The Jedi Knights: (Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Obi Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu etc.)
Sith Lords: (Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Dooku etc.)
General Grevious
The Lightsaber is the weapon of the Jedi Knights as well as their evil counterparts the Sith Lords. They would have to be one the most famous sci-fi weapons in popular fiction.
2. Conan's Atlantean Sword
Wielded by: Conan
After gaining the Royal Atlantean Sword, Conan became a great warrior and savage master swordsman. From a young boy watching his family and village destroyed, to becoming a barbarian and eventually even a king.
3. He-Man's Sword of Power
Wielded by: He-Man
He-Man is the mightiest warrior in all of Eternia. As Prince Adam he hides the secret of who he is, but when danger threatens, usually in the form of the evil Skeletor and his henchmen, he raises his sword in the air and shouts "BY THE POWER OF GREY SKULL, I HAVE THE POWER!" and he is transformed into HE-MAN and fights alongside the rest of The Masters Of The Universe!
4. Excalibur
Wielded by: King Arthur
Given to King Arthur by The Lady of the Lake, Excalibur can only be obtained by the true of heart. In many versions of the legend the sword is imbued with magical powers which aid King Arthur. It has also been tied in with the Sword in the Stone legend.
5. Sword of Omens

6. Sword of the Daywalker
Wielded by: Blade
Blade is the unbeatable kick-arse cool vampire slayer who wields his Ninja styled sword with deadly precision and martial arts expertise.
7. Zorro's Sword
Wielded by: Zorro
When I was a child Zorro was one of my favourite heroes and watching it on TV was one of the few pleasant highlights in a crappy life.
Zorro was a master swordsman and the sword is legendary only because of it's wielder. His trade mark was the sign of a "Z " that he would leave behind with a flash of his sword.
8. Prime's Energy Blades
Wielded by: Optimus Prime
As seen in the latest Transformers movie, Prime uses his twin blades with deadly speed and precision, slicing through the Decepticon enemies.
9. Hessian Soldier's Sword
Wielded by: The Headless Horseman
The terrirfying Headless Horseman from Sleepy Hollow removes the heads of his victims with his two-edged sword
10. The Blazing Sword
Wielded by: Voltron
The Blazing Sword is Voltron’s primary weapon that he summons when he brings his hands together and when he parts them the sword materialises. His sword is able to release a powerful energy star attack called “star fire”.
Voltron usually calls upon his blazing sword to end his battles.
11. Hattori Hanzo Sword

The Bride vows to kill Bill who left her for dead in a church and on her way to doing so, she dispatches countless deadly assassins using her legendary Hattori Hanzo Samurai Sword with ruthless precision.
12. Path Finder's Viking Sword
Wielded by: Ghost
A Viking child who becomes the lone survivor of a shipwreck, after his marauding Norse clan raids a coastal Native American village for slaves. Despite his blonde hair and strange language – and concerns that evil will follow the boy wherever he goes – the ten year-old is adopted by the local Wampanoag Indians, who raise him to become a skilled hunter and warrior.
He uses the Viking Sword to protect his adopted tribe from those he had spawned from.
13. Spartan Sword
Wielded by: Leonidas
This is the Spartan sword used by King Leonidas in the movie 300 to dispatch a multitude of the army hordes of the Emperor Xerxes. The battle scenes were both spectacular and savage.
14. Sword of Truth
Wielded by: Richard Rahl
The sword has the power to cut through anything perceived as the enemy while not harming a friend. The Sword of Truth draws on the rage of the one wielding it, but can be turned white and, when used with love and forgiveness, can slay even a friend. However, only the true Seeker can turn the blade of the Sword of Truth white.
The true Seeker of Truth is Richard Rahl and is the one that turned the blade of the Sword of Truth white. Richard Rahl does not need the sword in hand to call upon the power for the swords power is just a mirror of his own. The Sword of Truth is a sword that is carried by the Seeker of Truth.
15. Scottish Claymore Sword
Wielded by: William Wallace
William Wallace had extraordinary personal strength, outstanding weapon skills, undaunted courage, enterprising spirit, and dexterity. The power with which wielded his sword was the stuff of legends as was his sword itself
16. Takezo Kensai Samurai Sword
Wielded by: Hiro Nakamura
Hiro is a Japanese superhero with the ability to teleport and freeze time. He obtains the sword of master swordsman Takezo Kensai (aka. the legendary swordman Miyamoto Musashi) during his quest in the TV series Heroes.
17. Beastmaster's Sword
Wielded by: Dar
Dar, The Beastmaster uses his adoptive father’s mighty sword along with his psychic power to communicate with animals to fulfill his destiny and seek vengeance on the evil priest Maax who was responsible for slaying the Emurite clan, from whence came the man that saved him and raised him from a child into a mighty warrior.
18. Inigo Montoya's Rapier
Wielded by: Inigo Montoya
Inigo Montoya is a Spaniard master swordsman and the son of a sword-craftsman who was killed in front of a young Inigo by a six fingered man who refused to pay for the Rapier he requested to be made. Inigo vowed to hunt down and avenge his father's killer and slay him with his very own sword.
The famous words he has prepared to say to his father's killer before he exacts his revenge is "I am Inigo Montoya, you killed my father prepare to die". Even though he eventually loses his sword fight with the masked Wesley and they team up, he shows he is indeed a master swordsman worthy to wield the Rapier, when he indeed defeats the six fingered man. The Princess Bride is one of my favourite movies!
19. Sting
Wielded by: Frodo Baggins
In the film "The Lord of the Rings” The Sting sword, made by Elves in the ancient days, was given to the “Hobbit” Frodo Baggins by his cousin Bilbo, the original Ring bearer. Bilbo carried Sting with him when he originally acquired the Ring from Gollum. Sting's blade glows when the Orcs, the violent foot-soldiers of Sauron, are present. Engraved on the blade and cross guard of the sword are runes in the Elven language of Sindarin that say: "Maegnas aen estar nin dagnir in yngyl im" which translates to; "Maegnas is my name, I am the spider's bane." It serves Frodo well on his journey to cast the Ring back into the fires of Mount Doom, where it was originally forged, and destroy it once and for all.
20. Sly Sword
Wielded by: Talon
In the film The Sword and the Sorcerer, Talon must fight the forces of King Cromwell and a resurrected evil sorcerer Xusia, using the legendary "Sly Sword", a triple-bladed sword entrusted to him by King Richard. The Sly Sword is a unique weapon. The sword had a large central blade, ornate quillions, and two smaller outer blades, that could be fired at an opponent with the force of a crossbow.
